The Next Free Market is November 6th!

October 25, 2010

Hey y’all, the next really really free market will take place Saturday, November 6th starting at 2pm at the Carrboro Town Commons. There will be free food (2pm-bring a dish!), a workshop on stencil-making (3:00pm), and a kickball game (3:30pm), along with whatever food, items, skills, etc. y’all bring!

There are posters and handbills available to give to your neighbors and friends; they can be downloaded on this site on the “Help Promote the Markets” page.

Ask not what you can do for free, ask what you can do for freedom!

Welcome to the Really Free Market blog!

August 30, 2010

Hello! Welcome to the Carrboro Really Really Free Market’s blog. At an open assembly of market participants held in late August, it was suggested that a blog be set up to help promote the free markets as well as to encourage communication and the sharing of ideas amongst participants.

Do you have a new idea for a skill you could teach or dish you could cook? In the face of corporate bailouts, worsening economic recession, and increasing unemployment, how else can this space serve the needs its participants? How can we better coordinate logistical things like publicity and clean up?

In addition to this blog serving as a means of communication between participants, hopefully there will continue to be open assemblies of market participants held a week or two before every market (the next meeting will be Monday 6pm, September 20th, at Internationalist Books). And please remember, its the unpredictability of the markets that give them their magic: the seemingly spontaneous appearance of an applie pie, a game of soccer,  a tarot card reading, or a how-to-make-a-resume workshop. So let’s keep each other constantly surprised!

To comment on this blog, all you have to do is set up a free login at www.wordpress.com. You can also send an email to carrbororeallyfreemarket@gmail.com. We hope to soon have promo materials (flyers, handbills, etc.) up on the site so as to make promotion easier. Feel free to print some off and flyer your neighborhood!

With love,

a few long term, enthusiastic free marketeers
